5 Mondays: January 10, 17, 24, 31 and Feb.7, 2011
Alchemy of Beauty Course
What is Ugly to you and how does that
Ugliness affect you?
What does it mean to lead a beautiful life?
What are the Teachings of Beauty and
Ugliness?
The content comes from my direct experiences
and a life-long study of the relationship
between Beauty and Ethics. Far from being a
mere philosophical discourse, this is about
the true everyday situations we face and how
we can commit to making more beautiful
choices in our lives.
We will explore how commitment to Beauty is
a powerful path of transformation and how it
can shape all our thoughts, actions and
choices in daily life. Discover how to use
your unique Aesthetic tastes to evolve
spiritually - letting it inform your
everyday decisions and guide you through the
most difficult situations. It is an approach
to life eventually helped me to heal
completely from long-term depression and
regain my original joie de vivre...
Far from being a mere “high concept”, the
devotion to leading a Beautiful life can
turn even the most “ugly circumstances” into
a profound and heroic experience. As we
embrace the teachings of Ugliness, we can
better understand our essential beauty.
We will also acquire a deeper capacity to
understand the duality of Beauty and
Ugliness in the world and integrate them
with increasing Compassion.
This is a very personal study of how Beauty
and Ugliness have molded you and how they
can create who you will be in the future.
Beauty can be just an idea or it can be an
inspired way of living…

Alchemy of Expression
Where in your life are you most challenged
or misunderstood when you need to
communicate: At work? With certain types of
people or specific friends? With family?
With your partner? With your children? In
front of groups or large audiences?
Do you wish to speak with increasing ease
and authenticity? Do you have a strong
desire to stay in your integrity when you
communicate?
Far from being a specialized skill reserved
for artists and intellectuals, our ability
to express what is in our hearts and minds
is a fundamental aspect of being human.
Being able to communicate your meaning or
your authentic feelings in diverse contexts
is a real art and a long-term evolutionary
commitment.
Be it friendship, romance, business, public
speaking or artistic endeavours, your
ability to communicate is key. When you
refine how you express your essence and
honor your truth, you are also better able
to understand and honor others.
In Alchemy of Expression, we will examine
our individual communication styles and
joyfully take them to the next level of
Clarity, Truth and Beauty.

Greenest City Camp
from 8:30AM - 4PM, Includes delicious
vegetarian lunch!!
at SFU Wosk Centre for Dialogue
580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver
$25 + $2.49 service charge online:
http://greenestcitycamp.eventbrite.com/
Remember summer camp? Crafts and projects
and meeting lots of new people? Well, March
5th is Greenest City Camp, a full-day of
learning, connecting and finding allies and
collaborators to make Vancouver the Greenest
City in the world by 2020. This is your
chance to connect with Vancouver residents
and organizations that are passionate about
making this a green city and find out how we
can move forward together. It's about
finding people, and the resources, to do
what you always wanted to do like:
Making your voice heard by coming out to
speak at a Council meeting
Organizing your neighbourhood to take over
your laneway to create a garden
Working with your local Business Improvement
Association to reduce waste
Residents of Vancouver are passionate about
greening the city. We plant community
gardens. We walk and ride our bikes to work.
We take transit. We purchase healthy green
products. We compost. We recycle. We support
local businesses. Camp is about linking the
actions we are already taking to the ten
Greenest City goals in order to build
momentum for change. The City can do some
things like build bike lanes, provide
curbside composting and plant trees on city
land but the real impact comes when everyone
in Vancouver is part of this story.
The day will be an “unconference” which
means that all of the participants -that's
you! - jointly create the agenda and lead
discussions, talk about projects and find
solutions. We provide the space, some
background information, the coffee, the
cookies and some fun. Then turn it over to
you!
It's a lot of chaos, a lot of connection, a
lot of fun and will result in a lot of
action. You will also have the opportunity
to meet folks from the City, learn about the
draft Action Plans, and help fine tune and
prioritize actions before they go to City
Council.
And by the end of the day, everyone should
leave with concrete ideas and action items
on how they fit into the map of making
Vancouver the Greenest City by 2020.
Andrea Curtis, Little Woo and Fiona Rayher
will be facilitating storytelling via
interviews on video - share the story about
your community or group's inspired actions!

session idea and comment on other ideas on

Alchemy of Peace
It is always a powerful discussion when we
dialogue about Peace, War, Truth and
Responsibility. But what really revs up my
engine is the daily and often mundane work
of this grand spiritual transformation.
It's not on the battlefield or the world
stage that many of us will do the good work.
The majority of the good work is to be done
in our communities: with our family,
friends, co-workers and peers. Where we walk
everyday is where we can walk as true
peacemakers. If we still get triggered by
pedestrian events, we are probably not ready
to successfully deal with the military or
larger forces.
Where in our everyday lives, do we tend to
fight, bicker, get triggered or feel
antagonized? Where do we put up walls, who
do we judge and who do we want to shut down?
These questions point to the places that can
use some new consciousness. As activists, if
we try to change the world without changing
our warring mindset, we will be creating
more of the same in the end.
Topics include:
- Healing Defensiveness
- Rage and the Reptilian Brain
- the Human Right of Dignity
- Understanding and the transformation of
Enemies
- Judgment and Justice
- Unattachment and the Road to Inner Peace
This course was partly inspired by my
violent childhood experiences and more
importantly by my adulthood experiences of
understanding the true nature of Peace. Join
me in further developing such a shift in
consciousness, for the benefit of all
beings.
Four evenings, includes a tea break with
refreshments provided by Little Woo. (tea
and snacks) A combination of lecture,
dialogue and group healing exercises to help
focus, clarify and solidify these concepts
in our bodies, hearts and minds!

Alchemy of Reverence - Afternoon Workshop
This workshop is about the heartfelt practice
of Reverence: Naturally, there are people we
tend to admire and revere in our lives.
However, there are also those that we tend
to disrespect because we disapprove of their
attitude or behaviours. Sometimes, we feel
that they do not deserve our reverence
because they are not respectful to us or to
our values.
However, a committed practice of reverence
means that we offer it even to those who
disrespect us. We are not necessarily
agreeing with their actions but we are
aiming to see beyond perceived behaviours in
order to acknowledge the person's divinity.
Easier said that done but this course will
help instill the notion of Reverence more
deeply in our psyches and hopefully inspire
a life-long practice!
We will engage in various exercises to offer
respect for our fellow humans. There is a
peaceful elation that arises from honoring
others. We will practice giving and
receiving Reverence through the body with
physical and emotional offerings such as
bowing, prostration and gentle yet devoted
attention. In many disciplines of Eastern
philosophies (from yoga to martial arts),
there are many such customs even though in
the West, these practices are not common.
Regardless, it is an evolved act to offer
someone their Dignity and the principles of
Namaste can realistically be experienced in
our daily interactions. Let this course
strengthens your sacred commitment to honor
the world at large!
Special Note: Some of the exercises from
this course will be part of the XoX Temple
project and students who have completed the
course are invited to volunteer at the
temple whenever they desire. These immediate
opportunities allow us to practice the
teachings and bring healing into our
communities!

Fall 2011
A New Name: Epic
Evolution
I'd like to announce that my program
of teachings (previously known as Epic
Alchemy) is now called Epic Evolution. Over
the years, whenever people asked me "what is
this program about?", I've described it as
the spiritual work of conscious Evolution.
Though i still appreciate the power of the
word "Alchemy", it is also associated with
certain branches of esoteric study
(involving specific symbols and methodology)
that are not actually related to my work.
The word Evolution really sums up the crux
of what my work is about yet is more
accessible. Last winter, I finally decided I
would change the name this fall and it feels
good on many levels. Even the design of the
logo came to me instantly whereas the one
for Epic Alchemy remained in limbo as it
never felt right.
All the courses will thus have revised
names. e.g. Alchemy of the Heart becomes
"Evolution of the Heart" and Alchemy of
Expression becomes "Evolution of Expression"
etc. My new website will reflect these name
changes when it is ready later this fall.
Please note the new email address:

presentations. No event news please)
5 Wednesdays: October 19,

Epic Evolution Foundation Course (5-weeks)
In the "Epic Evolution Foundation Course", I
share the key spiritual principles that I
practice personally and teach in all my
courses. They are the blueprint for the
entire program so if this is only course you
ever take with me, it will be a very
succinct way to connect to the main
teachings.
I will also share a process that I started
in childhood and continue doing to this day
- the mapping of my personal mythology. It's
a tool that has helped me evolve
significantly and sustained me during very
difficult chapters. It has given me much
insight about the patterns within my
relationships, actions, belief systems and
life experiences. It helps me weave a better
understanding of who I was, who I am and
where I am evolving.
In these 5 weeks together, we will engage in
insightful exercises and hear illuminating
life stories from the group as this
foundation class gives you the core tools
and concepts for mapping your Spiritual
Biography!
This process helps us to:
- Better understand our life purpose through
our personal mythology
- Better discern the unique lessons and
patterns we here to evolve
With a set of guiding principles, we can
consciously evolve til the end of our days.
We each have many hidden talents and skills
that are waiting to be tapped yet we can
learn to fully enjoy being "works in
progress".
We do not evolve because we are broken, we
evolve because we are creative beings!

XoX Temple: In the Still of the Night
In modern societies, a lot of
people are missing the affectionate loving
touch of another human being. In a study i
read many years ago, the Latin countries had
the most touch in their everyday lives and
the British had the least. Does that seem
surprising? To me, it is always a bit
shocking to remember just how many people
are going about their lives with minimal
physical contact. In the West, unless you
have a partner or affectionate
family/friends, you may end up with barely
any affectionate touch in your daily life.
Some communities may be more "hug or
touch-friendly" but many people in the
Western world are hungering for this most
basic form of human connection.
This is one of the reasons why i have been
hosting free XoX Temple events in my home -
to help people receive this fundamentally
healing energy. It is a chance to give and
receive without strings attached! It is a
chance to experience this warmth without
encountering confusion or expectations. It
is a chance to enjoy connection without
having to specifically "ask" for it.
Not only is a loving touch extremely healing
to receive when we are down (be it from a
friend or a professional bodyworker), it is
healing on a day-to-day basis. I have been
in discussion with many professional escorts
who shared with me that one of the biggest
needs they fulfill is not necessarily sexual
- but the more platonic need for physical
touch and simple companionship.
Thus, at the XoX Temple, we co-create a
sacred space for support and companionship
that is not based on left-brain activity
(dialogue or intellectual analysis).
Instead, it is based on safe touch,
intuition, compassion and the art of being
present. The activities we share are less
about "doing something" with someone and
more about "being" with someone. Though our
compassionate action is often helpful to
someone in a time of crisis, sometimes all
they really want is our loving presence. We
don't have to have all the answers and we
don't have to fix anything. Often times, we
just have to be there with our love and hold
them for a while.
Let our hearts give
and receive gentle solace in a safe
environment. Each person will get a chance
to give support and to receive support. You
will practice holding others and you will practice being held.
There is a specific setting for this evening
with simple protocols that I will share
during the opening circle. In this sacred
container that we will create together, we
may encompass some laughing, some sobbing
and much silence yet no words. I will guide
verbally but we will enjoy the process
without talking.
To reserve your spot, please RSVP via email
and specify the date(s) you wish to attend:

More Info About The Presentation:
"Equal Watts" challenges the prevailing
belief that we will need 5 Earths to enable
the billions of people to live like
Americans. Instead it asserts that the only
limit to the "carrying capacity" of the
planet is whether the creative capacity of
the Global South is unleashed by the Solar
Revolution. Joel, a former Stanford biology
student who revolutionized life sciences
when his company assembled, annotated the
human genome and put it into the public
domain to prevent it from being patented -
repudiates the longstanding ideology of
scarcity and despair spread by Stanford
biology professor Paul Ehrlich with his 1968
screed, the Population Bomb.
The runaway exponential development of solar
power, LED lights, desalination and
hydroponics will soon render all the debates
about climate change, peak oil and
population growth moot and usher in an era
that turns the current global geopolitical
and economic order upside down! This
revolution will empower and emancipate the
Global South - radically restructuring
cities, the division between town and
country and the family itself.
"Equal Watts" uncovers a longstanding
pattern (dating back at least 600 years) of
economic, ecological, political and military
crises and the exponential development of
the technologies that overcome these crises.
As Mark Twain said "History may not repeat
itself, but it rhymes a lot."
About Joel Bellenson:
Joel was the co-founder and CEO of Pangea
Systems/DoubleTwist, which assembled and
annotated the first draft of the Human
Genome, provided low cost access to
academics and kept it from being patented.
He was also the co-founder and CEO of
Upstream Biosciences which used artificial
intelligence software to discover new
medicines against drug-resistant tropical
infectious diseases such as African Sleeping
Sickness, Malaria, and Black Fever. Joel and
his companies have been featured on the
cover of Wired Magazine, covered in the New
York Times, BBC, Fortune and Forbes,
appeared on ABC, CNN, CBC, won Best New
Technology Awards from Saatchi & Saatchi,
gave a keynote address at an African Union
conference, and chaired a World Health
Organization bioinformatics conference.

As you may know, I have a
visceral appreciation for Thailand - having
traveled there on 2 occasions and returning
this spring 2012. Since Thailand has
experienced severe flooding recently, I am
inspired to see if our community could
quickly rally some funds together and
provide clean drinking water for up to 1000
Thai people (up to 6 months of water).
Some time ago, I'd discovered Michael
Pritchard's amazing water filter via Ted
Talks and recently found out about the
Thailand Lifesaver Clean Water Project.
Through this program, the company will
provide water filters to people of Thailand
who are in need...
About the Thailand Lifesaver Clean Water
Project
http://www.lifesaversystems.com/become-a-lifesaver/Thailand-appeal
For every $160 Cad, we get one Lifesaver
jerrycan that can provide clean drinking
water for a village of 50 people for 6
months! (at 1.5L of water per day for 50
people)
Thus, I've started an IndieGogo campaign to
help monitor this effort and make it easy
for people to donate... Any amount you feel
inspired to give would be greatly
appreciated!
And if you can spread the word, this will
ensure success!! Vancouver loves Thailand!
