Sunset Qigong classes on Kits beach in July

Every Wednesday, 8pm in July, Kitsilano Beach, Kits point (from Starbucks on Cornwall cross street to kits beach walk north to furthest point on beach north, past concession and basket ball courts on left). $5 drop-in.

Come and soak in the sunset with me at Kitsilano point (on Kits beach) Wednesday evenings while enjoying Primordial Qigong. We will meet on the beach at 8pm and do qigong for about 45 minutes then relax and watch the beautiful colors paint the sky.

This is my current daily form of qigong and so far it's one of my favorites. Last couple of days I have really been in a funk and doing primordial qigong today during the sunset absolutely shifted me. Please read these three short articles describing the amazing principles and healing qualities of Primordial Qigong. You'll wonder why you don't do it every day.

See you at the beach!

Vancouver Folk Festival

If you haven’t decided yet to attend the Vancouver Folk Festival THIS WEEKEND, July 18, 19, 20, let me remind you that it’s “folk” music in the widest sense, plus all sorts of “traditional plus” and world music. Treat yourself to one of Vancouver’s most memorable weekends, wander around in summer holiday mode and check it all out – it’s quite an event!!!! It’s such a comfortable, beautiful setting that it tends to amaze the performers and bring the best out of them.

And quite apart from the outstanding music, the people attending, and all the vendors, make for a most memorable summer weekend!!!

Who’s going to be there? What sort of music? It’s such a lineup, and there’s so much that can be said about each act, that I won’t try to summarize it.

Check out http://thefestival.bc.ca/archives/category/performers08  for the whole list, and imagine the weekend -- everything from ensembles from the mountains of Morocco, to New Orleans, Mississippi and Montreal blues, to new country, new flamenco, future funk, Latin American grooves, fusion, dub, Saharan nomad desert blues, bluegrass, kora, reggae, calypso, Quebecois, Gaelic & Scots traditional, Aboriginal, salsa, hip hop, and old school gospel, and more. Also, the folks from Vancouver Rhythm and Dance (“VRAD”) will have a rhythm tent on the grounds and will do some drum circles.

It’s one of the year’s favourite weekends for all sorts of people who have great musical taste and high standards, so treat yourself to one of Vancouver’s finest displays of world class entertainment.

This weekend at Jericho Beach, July 18, 19, & 20.

THE UNWINKING GAZE:
THE INSIDE STORY OF THE DALAI LAMA'S STRUGGLE FOR TIBET

VANCOUVER PREMIERE // VANCITY THEATRE EXCLUSIVE

SPECIAL GUESTS: Prof. Tsering Shakya will attend the Friday & Sunday 7:00pm screenings.
Prof. Jeffrey Hopkins will attend the Wednesday 7:00pm screening

Watch the trailer: http://www.stuff2do.ca/videos/Vancitytheatre-UNWINKINGGAZE.html

The Unwinking Gaze offers a unique, behind-the-scenes insight into the recent working life of the Dalai Lama. Filmed over a period of three years with exceptional access, it shows the daily agonies of the Tibetan leader as he tries to strike a balance between his Buddhist vows and the realpolitik needed to placate China. David and Goliath is played out in front of us as the world's emerging superpower and the Dalai Lama walk a tightrope over an issue of global importance. The Unwinking Gaze is not three years in the life of the Dalai; it is his life's work in three years.

An Official Pride Partner Event:
Moving Into Awareness Workshop

How can moving your body bring much needed assistance to the GLBT community in Vancouver?

In this 2.5 hour workshop, you will use your own unique way of moving in connection with your special creativity. This creative awareness will allow you to release the daily stresses of life and bring in the joy we so desperately want to have with the added benefit of helping the GLBT community during the Pride celebrations.

Moving to the musical beat, we will allow our feet to guide us in a movement exploration of the body. These movements will be joined by opportunities to improvise, draw (abstract, not necessarily literal) and use spoken word. This creative release helps us gain useful resources for a more aware and wondrous life.

When: 7pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday July 22, 2008
Where: TooBa Physical Theatre Centre in the Dominion Building
211-207 W. Hastings St. (at Cambie St.) in downtown Vancouver

July 28 til August 15

The Moss & Sauce Collective presents
SUMMER JAM!  Empowering Day Camp for 7- to 11-year-olds

A fun, discovery-based Summer day camp for 7-11 year olds near Jericho Beach in Vancouver.

When: July 28 - August 15 (3-week session)
10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Where: Jericho Hill Centre, 4196 W. 4th Ave
(across from Jericho Park and Beach)

Why: to learn new skills, explore new perspectives, and grow as individuals in an atmosphere of support, respect, friendship and fun!

At Summer Jam we get outdoors and get creative as we explore our selves, our community and our environment -- while having tons of fun! Each day, a group of 18 participants and 5 exuberant staff engage in creative activities, group games, and collaborative projects. We practice communication, decision-making, cooperation and leadership skills, and enjoy the friendships that emerge along the way.

From Concept to Clean-Up!
We meet in a community Circle every morning to discuss possible activities for the day: games, theatre, arts, music, sports, science projects, what else can you think of? We choose activities that interest us, individually or in a group, and we discover how to put ideas into action, making decisions and being responsible for projects all along the way - from concept to clean-up!

Love outdoors!
We do! We spend lots of time outside in Jericho Park and on Jericho Beach.
One day each week, everyone joins in a fun and safe hiking expedition in Vancouver's local mountains.

For the love of Growing Ourselves Together!

Please see http://summerjam.mossandsauce.com/  for more details!
You can contact us at:  info [at] mossandsauce.com
or by phone at 778-558-1843.

Some recent developments worth mentioning:

1) We will be offering Summer Jam on a sliding scale to make it available to a wider range of participants.

2) We are excited to open our program to French-speaking participants in addition to English-speakers.

Green Drinks Summer BBQ at Jericho Park

Green Drinks Summer BBQ -- Wednesday July 30, Jericho Park 6 to 9 pm

If you've wanted to catch up on who is doing what in the bustling arena of grassroots action in Vancouver, here's your chance!

The BBQ is a largely self-organised event, so BYO food, frisbees, croquet, musical instruments (acoustic only), bocce, and so on. If you bring food, please bring your own (non-disposable) plates, cups, utensils etc.

One or two communal BBQ's might be available to use, however to avoid line-ups, feel free to bring (and share!) your own BBQ equipment. Please take home everything you bring, and remember that by regulation no alcohol is permitted in Vancouver Parks.

Please RSVP to Green Drinks if you plan to attend so that they can gauge the number of people to expect: greendrinksvancouver@gmail.com

The Green Your Campbell Cash campaign was developed by The Tyee, Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Voters Taking Action on Climate Change, David Suzuki Foundation and the Pembina Institute in response to the B.C. government's implementation of a "revenue neutral" carbon tax and accompanying $100 Climate Action Dividend mailed out to every British Columbian in June.

The Green Your Campbell Cash campaign has just announced cash prizes for the top 5 projects posted to the site. Please support Be The Change Earth Alliance by voting for our organisation. To vote, just click the icon or visit: http://contest.thetyee.ca/greenyourcampbellcash/node/109

This funding will go towards producing an e-book version of our Circle's Facilitator Guide and Participant's Action Guide. Be The Change was very well received at the Pachamama Global Gathering in California this June, and now 100 Symposium facilitators are taking the Be The Change program world wide. Having our materials accessible online as an e-book will enable our work to be of service internationally.

Beheshto Festival:  Suluk

As we move into the summer outdoor music festival season, we are very pleased to bring you news of Beheshto's 6th year celebration, guiding you to consciousness with music, dance and workshops in the beautiful BC wilderness. As always, we focus our events around a specific theme related to the great mystical tradition of the Sufi. This year's theme is Suluk – the spiritual journey… The term Suluk means to walk a spiritual path to Ultimate Truth. Suluk involves being ardent in the search for Ultimate Truth, understanding the self, and understanding the essential meaning of life, particularly of one's own life. Since the knowledge of the universe is infinite, the salik is forever gaining an infinite series of illuminations that have neither end nor limit.

We invite you to join us in our quest for truth and understanding in our new "top secret" location in the magical coastal mountains, for the opening circle at 6pm, as we set our intentions for the magical journey to follow. Workshops will run from 1:30pm to 6pm, followed by music, dancing and celebration through the night.

Please come prepared with camping gear, flash light, food, water, garbage bags, costumes, sarongs, tarps, banners, basic necessities and your glowing smile.
